Module 19

Create your Own Coaching Model – T (Thinkin) A (Action) O (Observe/Outcome)

I have thought and deliberated over this concept for a number of years and often it made me dip into imposter syndrome as I leaned into Models created by others and always had the limiting belief that I could not create my own. Here we are now, I am facing my own fear of not being good enough. I have contemplated this module from day 1. As I focus on my goal of completing the course, there is no turning back now. I can only move forward and reflect on the lesson at hand. In my moment of reflection, I am reminded of the TOA and the teachings from Lao TZU. I first discovered the teaching from the late Dr. Wayne Dyer and would often reference the learning in my facilitation and practice showing up in this way with my coaching. It made the most sense to me to tap into this wisdom and create a Model from it.

TAO meaning : (in Chinese philosophy) the absolute principle underlying the universe, combining within itself the principles of yin and yang and signifying the way, or code of behavior, that is in harmony with the natural order. Taoism philosophy is based on three pillars: simplicity, patience, and compassion. Lao Tzu said that these three principles are our greatest treasures. He further explained that by being simple in actions and in thoughts, you return to the source of being.

Upon this reflection I came up with :

T ( Thinking) A ( Action) O (Observation)

T – Thinking:  This explored the thinking of the coaching and their thoughts around the challenge. Thinking can explore thoughts around what has been working well and not working well. It could also be as simple as asking the Coachee, “what would you like to think about ?” or what are your thoughts? We can deepen it to “ Why is this thinking important for you? what do you want to change about your current thinking/belief? Their thinking is a goal towards what they want to achieve.  Explore their expectations vs their reality.

A – Action: The movement from where the Coachee is to where they want to be. What action will be needed to get them there? What have they already done toward their goal? We can align the action to a commitment conversation. What is their percentage of commitment towards their goal? What would an additional 10% look like from where they currently are? Is their action aligned with their purpose?

O- Observe/Outcome

This is an opportunity for the Coachee to Observe their Internal powers from their actions, what they think and what they feel to what they actually do and say. What direction have you put yourself in? If you continue on this path where will it take you? What other outcomes may arise from this observed outcome? ( we could name the observation in this instance) What final outcome state do you want to move toward? Now that you know what you know, what direction do you to take?

My way of being as we flow down the river together is always to ensure compassion passionate and simplicity with my Coachee.
