Module 25

Honor Time ( HIGHPOINT)

Nearing the end has never felt this gratifying for so many reason. I am so grateful for saying yes to this journey and being able to work with a Cohort of individuals who are full of love and care. I am grateful for the various Coaches that brought their gifts to us in every session and Mel who remained consistence in his guidance and support through all the Modules. I look ahead to the possibilities of continued growth on an ever lasting learning journey as I “become the Coach” .

The session today was different from other’s, a sense of calm took over, the feeling of being heard, seen and loved was present in our virtual room. I recall Mel saying that as a Coach we might be the only person who is honoring the Coachee. We honor our Coachee by being present to them, listening with deep delicious attention, in that moment all that matters is them. We honor our Coachee by celebrating their achievements regardless of how big or small and for me most critical is that we Honor their story with no judgement, only compassion and empathy. Imagine a world where we took more time to honor each other, that would stimulate our “happy hormone’s” and create a happier world. We feel good by taking better decisions, we start to repeat the behavior and create better habits.

The 5 Strategies to Honour Life

Disarm threats by exploring possibilities – working with our Coachee to bring in new awareness of thinking and being.

Engage your social brain (learning) – We learn better in company of another, especially where there is psychological safety created for us to be our authentic self. Psychological safety is the belief that you won’t be punished or humiliated for speaking up with ideas, questions, concerns, or mistakes. Learning happens freely when we feel safe.

Nurture your emotional agility – I learnt about the importance of feeling while immersing myself in the Thinking Environment by Nancy Kline. one of the components speak about Feelings and the importance to release feelings for our own independent clarity of thinking. When we do not release emotions, we can get stuck with the pattern of thinking or being that will limit our thinking. Coaching creates a place for the Coach to be free to release their feeling and emotions and own them as their own during the session. These feelings and emotion are not the Coach’s to own or feel it is for for Coachee.

Advocate trust over doubt – When we honor our Coachee by hearing their truth in that moment, we acknowledge that it is ok for them to experience natural human feelings. This is something we want to honor about them, their ability to be doubtful and at the same time allow them to reflect on how the doubt might be serving them in alignment with their growth possibility conversations.

Facilitate reflection and insights – I have always used journaling as a way to gain insights and reflections for myself. Our time with our Coachee is sacred and creates a space for for them to reflect and gain new insights for themselves. This could mean honouring them with our silence, listening intently and at the same time creating a place where they can also hear themselves free from noise and interruptions.
