Module 16

Focus & The Wheel of Life ( CORE)

Focus & The Wheel of Life, is a great practical way to re-center our thinking around our priorities and which part of our life we would want to focus on. It makes sense that this is part of the CORE modules. It is a great way to ignite the thinking of our Coachee on what he/she would like to focus on as part of the coaching conversation/s.

I have done this exercise a few times with clients and it’s always interesting to see how over some time one’s priorities shift and change based on where the coachee currently is. My takeaway from the session is that as a Coach we should allow the Coachee to own the process and draw the “Wheel of life that best represents their own life. This enables the Coachee to start to focus and reflect on what is truly important to them and their life’s purpose. It also enables the coachee to identify what is working well and what might not be working well. It will open up deeper thinking around gaps that the Coachee might want to work on during their coaching sessions. These form part of the 4 focus topics. As a Coach, our role is to ask questions that bring about awareness of both positives and negatives that might be coming up in our Coachee’s life. It is always easier for us to see what is wrong instead of what is strong within us. I love that this process encourages us to celebrate our strengths, and our truths, and identify solutions while we work on our insecurities, weaknesses, problems and what might not be working. The coachee can see visually through the Wheel of life which areas of their life they might be neglecting and which they might be giving too much energy. The awareness and realization of this often allow the Coachee to bring about balance as they focus on their blind spots.

After doing the exercise myself, I have identified areas of my life that I would certainly love to focus on, my health, my spirituality, and my family life. We are constantly learning and growing and it’s always great to revisit the Wheel of life to be in constant awareness of self and one’s focus.
